Dear Brigitte & Bobby,
As a single mother — of two small children — facing homelessness, I found myself in an overwhelming and desperate situation. I had lost my job and home and was worried I’d lose my kids. Although we couch-surfed for a while, it was not a sustainable way to live. Eventually, I had no other choice but to live in my car. Thankfully, my kids were able to stay with their dad.
Because my children had been abused, we were receiving services from Childhelp, so I turned to them for housing assistance. The victim advocate helped me contact multiple agencies and programs and gave me gift cards for food, gas and presents for my kids during the holidays. These donations not only met our basic needs but also restored our dignity and sense of self-worth.
The emotional support and encouragement I received provided me with the strength and motivation to keep going and stay strong for my kids, even when the odds seemed stacked against me.
Thanks to all of this, I was able to get back on my feet. I’m excited to share with you that I am working full-time and have a safe place to live — with my children! Because of your kindness and generosity, my children and I are together again. My belief and faith in humanity has been restored.
With a heart full of gratitude,
-Single Mother of Two
